Abstract:
Actuation of the needle tip by ultrasound has shown a promise to be useful for many medical purposes such as in decreasing pain and improving spatial accuracy of needle insertion. Here we present a novel transducer construct for creating flexural waves in a tubular structure at high electric-to-acoustic power efficiency. This could permit batterization and miniaturization of an ultrasonic needle, if developed to its full potential.
